News of Prodigy’s passing sent shock waves through the music industry. Artists and fans took to social media to express their disbelief and to send their condolences to Prodigy’s family. Prodigy’s untimely death deeply affected those who knew him on a personal level, not only in the Hip Hop community but in the Reggae and Dancehall community as well. Kranium expressed his experience with Prodigy and thanked him for his knowledge and advice. Shaggy and Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage expressed their feelings upon learning the news. Shaggy performed at Hot 97’s Summer Jam on June 11th where he caught up with Prodigy who also performed at the concert.

Prodigy was hospitalized in Las Vegas following a recent Mobb Deep performance. Although the official cause of death hasn’t been determined yet, Prodigy’s battle with sickle cell since birth is widely known.
