Peter Tosh’s Legacy Celebrated In Kingston
Peter Tosh’s legacy was celebrated this weekend at the Peter Tosh Music Festival in Kingston, Jamaica — held at the Peter Tosh Museum at the Pulse Center (opened November 2016). This year’s celebration coincided with Peter Tosh’s Earth Strong (Birthday), October (19) – 22. Artists such as Tony Rebel, Luciano, Freddie McGregor, Queen Ifrica, Jesse Royal and Nadine Sutherland (just to name a few) paid tribute to the reggae icon performing his most cherished songs. Word, Sound and Power (Tosh’s backing band) also made a special appearance for the festivities.
This year’s festival also launched the Peter Tosh Awards. The Inaugural Award Ceremony included recipients for the Steppin’ Razor Award (Bunny Wailer and Bob Marley), the Legalize It Award (Ras Iyah V and Luciano), the Bush Doctor Award (Copeland Forbes) and last but not least, Nelson Mandela was posthumously honored with the Equal Rights Award.
Peter Tosh was a member of The Wailers which included Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer. He was murdered in his home in Kingston, Jamaica on September 11, 1987 — he was 42.
